Things That Make You Go HA!

By Flint of TVClubhouse

There are some arguments and comments that you will always find people throwing in your face when they don't like the way something was handled. Some of them can be pretty amusing, or assinine, or both. Here are a few of the more memorable ones.

First is the "This is America and I have the right to say whatever I want." Which can be very funny when the person is not talking to someone in America, or about a place that might not be in America. The LPMud I was an Admin on was originally based out of Switzerland. Yet, you would get people who got in trouble whining "I am an American! This is America! You can't infringe on my freedom of statement!" People need to keep in mind that while a large number of people on the net might be Americans, not everyone is, nor is every site. The rights they feel are absolute in their country may not be elsewhere, or even in their country. The US Supreme Court has acknowledged some limits to freedom of statement, which would mean it is not an absolute right after all. Is it any wonder this statement is usually snickered at?

A second argument is "You need to treat people like adults!" Which is actually a fair argument, so long as people ACT like adults. I have seen people use that battle cry after they have been in trouble for some of the most childish behaviour. Such as flamebaiting people, bashing people, name calling, etc. Then when they get in trouble they whine about it and complain that they aren't being treated like an adult. Any wonder why?

Another is "You just threatened me." This commonly occurs after a Moderator addresses someone. After AmericanWoman1 started acting up during Big Brother 2 and stated she would head off into the sunset I made a post she took as a threat. It addressed her whining about being Moderated, leaving her with a question which to this day she has not answered. (She stated she had been around for over a year and never moderated, in posts complaining about having been moderated. A little contradictory.) I also made the statement that if she continued in the vein she was going (constant complaining and flamebait), and wasn't able to go off into the sunset like she stated she would, someone would help her. The immediate response was, that was a threat. . To me it was a statement of fact. She was getting antsy, flamebaiting, and started whining that she might just leave. If she had continued in that direction, and didn't want to stop, she would have ended up being tossed on her ass.

A more current example would be a warning I gave to one poster just a few days ago about flamebaiting, which another poster got pissy about. Mainly because he had the hots for her. So, he claimed it was a threat so he could leap to her defense. Anything to impress I guess. (And he is one of the people who had used the "treat us like adults" cry in the past.) As I have always said, people will take whatever they want and interpret it their own way; as a threat, a word of caution, advice, whatever their little mind desires.

One of my all time favourites is "I am leaving here and never coming back!" I can't tell you how many times I have heard that line. Usually it is a ploy for either sympathy or attention. The people who leave and don't come back very rarely advertise. They just leave. Those who make those threats might leave, but tend to be back within a few weeks. There was a couple on the LPMud who would pull that all the time. They would leave long rambling posts castigating everyone and everything, going on about how much they hated the site, how stupid everyone but they are, etc. The longest one of them ever stayed away was about 6 months. Usually they returned within a week. Even when they say they are leaving, people tend to lurk. Whether it is as another character on a game like an LPMud, or just read and not post on an internet board. Is it any wonder that this is usually seen as an idle, and childish threat?

Lastly we have ye olde "If you don't like it, leave." This one usually gets applied to Moderators and Admins, whether they actually said it that way or not. It could easily fall under the "I was threatened" category, but deserves mention on its own. Usually, a Moderator will reply to someone whining about having been moderated by saying: This is a moderated site, if you don't like it there are unmoderated sites out there for you. I have used that exact phrase more than a few times myself. As with things that get construed as a threat, it can be taken many ways, and people will take it whatever way they want. So, if you are someone who has an axe to grind, or is looking for something to whine about, it gets taken as "Like it or leave it." or "If you don't like it start your own site.". When I say it, it means just what it says, nothing more, nothing less. TVCH is a moderated site. If you don't like being moderated, and post in such a manner that you will end up being moderated, it may not be the type of site you want to be at. I always figured it was common sense, and that if you were on a moderated site then seeing posts moderated, or even being moderated should not be that big a surprise. I guess that is just me.

Reality TV Addicts Opens Up

We received this nice letter from the ezop at Reality TV Addicts:

Hello...I am the ezop and webmaster of RealityTvAddicts.com.

I wanted to personally apologize on behalf of all my administrators and moderators. We have had to use the application feature on our board due to the recent events at Reality 411. Unfortunately we were caught up in their board war.

I joined Letztalk on the same day that Reality411 started the board war with them. They thought I was part of the war since I began posting on Reality's board first and deleted my posts. Mike from Sendagig came over to my board and posted an apology and invited me back to the board. We have decided to link each others boards since I became friends with all the administrators and mods at letztalk which now has developed into a war with Reality411. We have also gained quite a few members from Reality411 since this thing started. My ezboard account has since been hacked into..posts were deleted and access denied to many people ( I assume including you).

We deeply apologize and you are welcome at any time to view and post at our board.

Thank You
Reality Tv Junkee
Reality Tv Addicts.com

Thanks RTVJ!

Where is the Top 50?

We are getting numerous e-mails concerning the state of the Top 50 lists for Big Brother, Survivor, and Reality TV. All three lists have been wiped, and some brave few are reapplying, but even then the lists seem to be having some technical difficulties, and more wipes seem possible.

We have tried to contact the owner of the lists, to no avail. Posts to their technical support are also not answered.

We did find some interesting links at their home site - an Operator list which seems to be very outdated, and a page on Becoming and Operator, which also seems somewhat outdated. And if you want to see what the operators look like, click here.

We suspect with the problems is net advertising, that the Top 50 owner has lost interest in this project. We would like to hear from him to tell us the future of the Top 50 list. Otherwise webmasters should begin looking for another, better maintained list.

Top 10 List

From the home office at TVClubhouse we have this issues Top 10 list.

The Top 10 Stupidest Excuses and Complaints. (pulled from actual posts)

10. There is no rule against anything I did, so fuck you.
9. The moderators are a bunch of power hungry net nerds and that's why I was moderated.
8. Someone else started it!
7. The moderator is playing favorites w/ the HG's
6. That was never in my post, the moderators must have put that there.
5. This is America and I have the constitutional right to say whatever I want.
4. I knew my post was flame bait and even said so in my post, so why was I moderated?
3. I didn't say anything that the HGs haven't said!
2. I got moderated and what I said wasn't bad and I have seen much worse things left on the board.

and the number one stupid excuse/complaint is

1. Dear moderator -- I've made the same post about how so-and-so is such a bitch three times now, and it keeps disappearing. What's happening to my posts?

Honourable mention:

I am leaving here and never coming back!
I did nothing wrong, you are just picking on me.
I guess I'm just looking for trouble tonight.

Dregs and Dross

We were hoping our star reporter would come back, but Juez N. Jurado has decided in the aftermath of the World Trade Center to spend time as a volunteer helping in the recovery. God be with you Juez.

Are these people crazy? Elite TV is planning on running a Big Brother type game at their site. Isn't this the same type of game that was run on TVCH twice, resulting in two board splits, of which ETV is one?

Of the recent board wars, it seems that Letz Talk has emerged relatively unscathed. Continuing to keep an open board, it seems more and more posters are showing up at the site.

Our favorite troll continues to post on our messageboard, though he also continues to tell us goodbye. We may have to upgrade his status from troll to stalker.

We realize Reality TV Junky received some flak for posting/advertising his messageboard on ours. That type of posting is fine by us - we like to hear about new boards and events on existing boards, so feel free to post such information. That is part of our reason for existence - a central place that reality tv netizens can find out news about other sites.

Just don't let it turn into spam.

Favorite Poster: Reality TV Fan's JT5292

What can we say about JT5292 at Reality TV Fans? Nothing, really, except that we like how they write and we doubt that they will receive much recognition in the RTVF weekly blurb here.

So we thought it would be nice to make them this issue's Favorite Poster!

Now get back to work!
